Cleveland traded defensive tackle Chris Williams and a 2025…

The August 24, 2024 transaction is clearly documented by Chicago. The Bears acquired defensive tackle Chris Williams and a 2025 seventh-round pick from Cleveland in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round selection that Chicago had previously received from Miami in the Chase Claypool trade. The sixth-rounder eventually became No. 192 overall. The seventh-rounder became No. 240 and had originally reached Cleveland from Minnesota. The legacy row captured the broad exchange but incorrectly attached later draftees to each side as if those players were direct selections by the acquiring clubs.

Williams gave Chicago two seasons of useful rotational defensive-line play. NFL records credit him with all 17 games and one start in 2024, producing 23 combined tackles and three sacks. He followed with 14 games in 2025, adding 14 tackles and one sack. Across the two Bears seasons that is 31 appearances, one start, 37 tackles and four sacks. That is not premium starter production, but it is substantial direct roster value from a player acquired for a late-round pick swap.

Chicago also retained value from the seventh-rounder. Pick No. 240 was part of the Bears' 2025 trade with Buffalo in which Chicago sent Nos. 41, 72 and 240 and received Nos. 56, 62 and 109. Buffalo ultimately used No. 240 on Kaden Prather. Because the Bears combined the pick with two much more valuable selections, TradeVerdicts does not credit Ozzy Trapilo, Shemar Turner or any later player wholly to this 2024 deal. The appropriate credit is narrower: No. 240 remained usable capital in a larger draft maneuver after Chicago had already received two seasons from Williams.

Cleveland's No. 192 selection also became trade currency. During the 2025 draft, the Browns sent No. 192 together with No. 166 to Seattle for No. 144, then selected quarterback Shedeur Sanders. NFL's trade tracker explicitly identifies No. 192 as the pick that came from Miami through Chicago. Sanders appeared in eight games as a 2025 rookie, completing 120 of 212 passes for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while adding 169 rushing yards and one rushing score. Those are meaningful quarterback snaps, but Cleveland had to contribute another fifth-round pick to obtain him, so his entire value cannot be assigned to the sixth-rounder received from Chicago.

The hindsight edge belongs modestly to Chicago. The Bears received 31 games and four sacks from Williams and still preserved the seventh-round pick as part of another trade. Cleveland's sixth-rounder helped facilitate a move up for a quarterback who gained real rookie experience, but that outcome required the additional No. 166 pick and remained mixed through his first season. A B for Chicago and B- for Cleveland reflects Chicago's broader realized value while still crediting the Browns for turning No. 192 into useful trade-up leverage.
