Miami acquired Jalen Ramsey from the Rams for tight end Hunter Long and pick No. 77, used on edge rusher Byron Young. Ramsey started 27 games for Miami across 2023-24, intercepted five passes and extended his Pro Bowl streak before being traded again in 2025. Young has become a three-year Rams starter with 27.5 sacks, including 12 in 2025. The long-term pass-rush return now gives Los Angeles a slight edge.

Trade Analysis
Miami acquired Jalen Ramsey in March 2023 for tight end Hunter Long and a third-round pick, No. 77. The Rams were reducing veteran salary commitments after an expensive championship window, while the Dolphins wanted another elite corner to pair with Xavien Howard and strengthen a roster built to contend immediately.
Ramsey’s Miami tenure was productive despite beginning with an injury. He missed the first seven games of 2023, then started 10 and intercepted three passes. In 2024 he started all 17 games, recorded 60 tackles, two interceptions, 11 passes defensed and a sack, and continued his long Pro Bowl streak. Miami even extended him before the season. The Dolphins therefore received two years of high-end secondary play rather than a failed veteran rental.
The Rams’ return looked modest at first because Long never became an important offensive player. The third-round pick changed the evaluation. Los Angeles selected Tennessee edge rusher Byron Young, who immediately became a starter. He recorded eight sacks as a rookie, 7.5 in 2024 and 12 in 2025. Through three seasons he has started 49 of 51 games, totaled 27.5 sacks, 32 tackles for loss and 66 quarterback hits, and has added postseason pass-rush production.
Miami later moved Ramsey again in 2025 as part of the Pittsburgh deal involving Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jonnu Smith, meaning the Dolphins also recovered continuing value beyond his two seasons. That prevents the Rams’ side from becoming a runaway win.
Still, Young now represents three seasons of starting pass-rush production on a rookie contract with more value remaining. At a premium position, that is an excellent return for a third-round selection. Ramsey was very good for Miami, but his tenure was shorter and more expensive.
The original Miami B+/Rams B result should flip slightly. Los Angeles deserves an A- and Miami a B+. This became a strong trade for both clubs, with the Rams edging ahead because Young developed into a durable double-digit-sack starter.
