1992 NBA Trades

Charlotte acquired Sidney Green; 1993 first round pick (#20-Scott Burrell); 1996 second round pick (#55-Ronnie Henderson) from San Antonio Spurs for J.R. Reid.

Boston acquired Alaa Abdelnaby from Bucks in exchange for Jon Barry; 1995 second-round pick (#43 Eric Snow).

Cleveland surrendered Steve Kerr for 1996 second round pick (#56-Reggie Geary), leaving the partner with a clear realized-value win.

Seattle acquired Vincent Askew from Sacramento on November 25, 1992 for a 1993 second-round draft choice. Askew delivered 284 regular-season games for the SuperSonics across 1992-96, including 80 games and 727 points in 1993-94. Sacramento retained the No. 52 pick and selected Mike Peplowski, who supplied 55 Kings games and 176 points as a rookie. Seattle SuperSonics Win, Seattle A-, Sacramento C+.

Detroit acquired Gerald Glass; Mark Randall from Minnesota Timberwolves for Lance Blanks; Brad Sellers; 2000 conditional second round pick (not exercised?).

Atlanta acquired Daron Blaylock; Roy Hinson from Nets in exchange for Rumeal Robinson.

Denver acquired Robert Pack from Portland Trail Blazers for 1993 second-round pick (#48-Kevin Thompson).

The Nets acquired Jayson Williams from 76ers in exchange for 1994 second-round pick (#41, William Njoku); 1997 second-round pick (#35, Kebu Stewart).

On October 8, 1992, the Washington Bullets traded forward John 'Hot Rod' Williams to the Los Angeles Clippers for center William Bedford and rookie draft rights to Don MacLean. Washington waived Bedford within days but signed MacLean, who averaged 18.2 points in 1993-94 and won NBA Most Improved Player. Williams's Clippers stint was limited compared with the prolific Washington return from MacLean. Wizards Win under the modern franchise label, Washington A-, Clippers C-.

On October 5, 1992, Houston traded David Wood to San Antonio for a 1995 second-round pick. The Rockets traded the pick to Portland for Mario Elie in August 1993, and Elie helped Houston win the 1994 and 1995 NBA championships. The pick later went to Detroit, which drafted Don Reid. Houston acquired Scott Brooks from Minnesota for a 1995 second-round pick.

Knicks Win. Rivers and Smith both became starters for a Knicks team that won 60 games in 1992-93 and reached the Eastern Conference finals, and Smith remained part of the frontcourt rotation as New York continued its championship pursuit. The Clippers received a productive starting point guard in Jackson, so their side was meaningful rather than empty. Orlando's late first-round pick produced little NBA value, leaving the Magic with the weakest realized return.

Chicago acquired veteran forward Rodney McCray through a September 1992 three-team trade. Dallas received a 1996 second-round right linked to Darnell Robinson and a conditional pick that never conveyed, while Golden State acquired Byron Houston. McCray contributed depth to Chicago's 1993 championship team. The inherited Bulls Win grades Chicago B+, Dallas C+ and Golden State C+.

Minnesota acquired 1996 second round pick (#49-Amal McCaskill) while sending out Tony Campbell in the 1992-09-13 transaction with Knicks.

Detroit acquired rights to Isaiah Morris; 1993 first round pick (#10 – Lindsey Hunter) from Miami Heat for John Salley.

Indiana and Minnesota Timberwolves produced a stronger realized return for Wolves in the 1992-09-08 exchange.

Milwaukee acquired Sam Vincent plus Orlando's 1994 second-round selection for Lester Conner on August 4, 1992. The selection became No. 46 Voshon Lenard, who returned to college in 1994-95 and later played for Miami rather than becoming a Bucks NBA contributor. Orlando obtained a veteran guard in Conner. Even Trade, C+ each; the future pick had legitimate option value, but Lenard's successful Heat seasons don't belong to Milwaukee.

The 1992-07-07 exchange produced broadly comparable realized value: 1993 second round pick (#41-Anthony Reed) for rights to Litterial Green.

Dallas received 1995 first-round pick (#24-Loren Meyer) from New York Knicks and sent Rolando Blackman in return.

Detroit acquired Olden Polynice; 1996 second round pick (#39 – Russ Millard); 1997 second round pick (#40 – Eddie Elisma) from LA Clippers for William Bedford; rights to Don MacLean.

Milwaukee Bucks received Blue Edwards; Eric Murdock; 1992 first round pick (#23-Lee Mayberry). Utah Jazz received Jay Humphries; Larry Krystkowiak.

Milwaukee acquired rights to Tracy Murray while sending out Dale Ellis in the 1992-06-24 transaction with Spurs.

Milwaukee acquired Alaa Abdelnaby while sending out rights to Tracy Murray in the 1992-06-24 transaction with Blazers.

Phoenix acquired Charles Barkley from Philadelphia on June 17, 1992 for Jeff Hornacek, Tim Perry and Andrew Lang. Barkley immediately won the 1992-93 NBA MVP, led the Suns to 62 wins and the NBA Finals, and made the All-Star and All-NBA teams in each of his four Phoenix seasons. Philadelphia's return was more substantial than a typical star dump: Hornacek played 132 games and averaged 19.1 points and 6.9 assists in his first Sixers season, while Perry and Lang supplied major starting minutes.

The Lakers granted coach Mike Dunleavy permission to leave for Milwaukee in May 1992, with the Bucks compensating Los Angeles using 1992 and 1995 second-round draft choices. The 1992 selection became No. 36 Duane Cooper, who appeared briefly for the Lakers, while the 1995 selection later linked to Dwayne Whitfield was rerouted in separate transactions. Dunleavy coached Milwaukee for four seasons, going 107-221, before being dismissed. Lakers Win narrowly for securing compensation rather than letting a departing coach go for nothing, Los Angeles B-, Milwaukee C-. The legacy route labels June 1 although contemporary sources date the deal May 11-12.

Dallas received Brian Quinnett from New York Knicks and sent James Donaldson in return.
