1993 NBA Trades

The Nets acquired Johnny Newman from Hornets in exchange for Rumeal Robinson.

Denver acquired Alvin Robertson; 1995 second-round pick (#44-Anthony Pelle); future considerations (details unresolved) from Detroit Pistons for Marcus Liberty; Mark Macon.

Phoenix traded point guard Negele Knight to San Antonio on November 8, 1993 for the Spurs' 1994 second-round pick, which became No. 29 Antonio Lang. Knight immediately gave San Antonio 64 games, 18 starts, 9.3 points and 3.1 assists per game before the Spurs released him the following July. Phoenix used the pick on Lang, but he appeared in only 12 Suns games as a rookie and averaged 0.9 points. The one-season Knight return clearly outweighed Phoenix's brief Lang stint.

Chicago acquired Jo Jo English from Minnesota for a conditional future draft pick that was not exercised.

Indiana exchanged Detlef Schrempf for Derrick McKey and Gerald Paddio, trading offensive star power for the defensive versatility that fit its emerging playoff core.

Philadelphia acquired guard Sean Green from Indiana on October 11, 1993 for a 1994 second-round pick. Green appeared in 35 76ers games that season, scoring 149 points in 332 minutes before his inclusion in a larger February deal with Utah. Indiana drafted William Njoku at No. 41 with the pick, but he never played an NBA game. 76ers Win, Philadelphia B-, Indiana D+.

San Antonio won the Dennis Rodman–Sean Elliott exchange by receiving two seasons of league-leading rebounding and elite defense, while Elliott lasted only one season in Detroit before returning to the Spurs.

Charlotte acquired Hersey Hawkins from Philadelphia 76ers for Dana Barros; Sidney Green; rights to Greg Graham; 1994 first round pick (#6-Sharone Wright).

Charlotte acquired Dana Barros; Eddie Johnson; Hornets' option to swap 1994 first round picks (#6-Sharone Wright) from Seattle SuperSonics for Kendall Gill; Hornets' option to swap 1994 first round picks (#11-Carlos Rogers).

On August 20, 1993, Minnesota and Washington exchanged the draft rights to Conrad McRae and Tim Burroughs. Neither prospect ever played an NBA game. Even Trade, C- for both franchises.

Denver acquired Bison Dele from Orlando Magic for Todd Lichti; Anthony Cook; 1994 second-round pick (#31-Rodney Dent).

Houston acquired Mario Elie from Portland for the 1995 second-round pick used on Don Reid. Elie became a core two-way role player on consecutive champions and hit the defining “Kiss of Death” shot in the 1995 playoffs, while Portland received only limited value from the late pick.

Cleveland acquired Tyrone Hill for 1994 first round pick (protected top 7) (#16-Clifford Rozier) and other considerations based on the position of the pick (details unresolved), producing a clear Cavaliers win on realized player, draft and roster value.

The Nets acquired 1993 second-round pick (#36, John Best) from Bullets in exchange for future considerations (cash).

Dallas received draft rights to Ronald Jones from Houston Rockets and sent draft rights to Eric Riley in return.

Denver acquired rights to Darnell Mee from Golden State Warriors for rights to Josh Grant; 1994 second-round pick (#39-Anthony Miller / Pig Miller).

Orlando won the 1993 draft-night blockbuster by exchanging Chris Webber’s rights for Penny Hardaway’s rights and three future first-round picks, creating an immediate contender beside Shaquille O’Neal.

Minnesota acquired Mike Brown while sending out Felton Spencer in the 1993-06-30 transaction with Jazz.

On June 24, 1993, Portland acquired Harvey Grant from Washington Wizards in exchange for Kevin Duckworth; future considerations.

The Nets acquired Benoit Benjamin from Lakers in exchange for Sam Bowie; 1998 conditional second-round pick (#45, Toby Bailey).

Chicago received Ed Nealy for 2001 conditional second round pick (not exercised) and finished with a modest realized-value edge.

Detroit acquired Alvin Robertson from Milwaukee Bucks for Orlando Woolridge.

Chicago acquired Ed Nealy from Golden State for a conditional 2001 second-round pick on February 25, 1993. Nealy played 11 Bulls games, supplying 23 points and 16 rebounds in 79 minutes. The future selection never conveyed. Slight Bulls Edge, Chicago C-, Golden State D-.

SuperSonics Win: Perkins became one of the defining role players of Seattle's strongest 1990s teams. The trade is a reminder that a non-star veteran can decisively win a transaction when he fills an important role for years and the younger return fails to mature for the other side. Seattle did not need Perkins to become its best player; it needed him to make a strong roster harder to solve.
