Carolina selected center Bruce Nelson at 50 and later used No. 120 in another move, while the Patriots chose wide receiver Bethel Johnson at 45 and eventually reacquired 120 to draft Asante Samuel. The Patriots' broader draft maneuvering produced the stronger value.
New Orleans and New England swapped two former high draft picks who had fallen out of favor, with wide receiver Bethel Johnson going to the Saints and defensive tackle Johnathan Sullivan going to the Patriots.
