Chicago Bears received 1999 1st round pick (12th overall, Cade McNown), 1999 3rd round pick (71st overall, D'Wayne Bates), 1999 4th round pick (106th overall, Warrick Holdman), 1999 5th round pick (143rd overall, Jerry Wisne) and 2000 3rd round pick (87th overall, Dustin Lyman). The final review favors Washington Commanders because that return produced stronger practical football value.
Denver traded Clinton Portis to Washington and received Champ Bailey plus the 41st pick in the 2004 draft, which became Tatum Bell. Portis produced several excellent seasons in Washington, including three 1,200-yard campaigns, so the deal was not a failure for Washington. Bailey became a Hall of Fame cornerback and perennial Pro Bowler in Denver, however, while the Broncos also received meaningful draft capital.
