Los Angeles traded defensive back George Youngblood to Cleveland for the Browns' 1968 third-round pick, No. 74 overall. The Rams quickly bundled that selection with a first-rounder and a 1969 second-rounder to acquire star defensive tackle Roger Brown from Detroit; Detroit later used No. 74 on Hall of Fame tight end Charlie Sanders. Youngblood spent only part of one season in Cleveland.
Chicago acquired defensive back George Youngblood from New Orleans for a 1970 fifth-round selection. Youngblood started all 14 games for the Bears in 1969, intercepted three passes, and returned one for a touchdown, so Chicago received immediate defensive production. New Orleans used the acquired No. 106 pick on Glenn Cannon, but that selection did not create comparable long-term value. The short duration of Youngblood’s career keeps the deal roughly even.
