Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints

Oakland moved from No. 10 to No. 2 in the 1997 draft, also receiving a sixth-rounder, and selected defensive tackle Darrell Russell. New Orleans received Daryl Hobbs plus picks 10, 39 and 107, using the first on guard Chris Naeole. Russell reached a higher peak with two Pro Bowls, while Naeole delivered much greater career longevity. The trade was productive for both sides and finishes close to even.
Miami traded the 123rd pick to Oakland for three later selections: Nos. 157, 166 and 203. The Raiders used No. 123 on Chad Levitt, who played only 10 NFL games. Miami drafted Nicholas Lopez, John Fiala and Hudhaifa Ismaeli; Fiala eventually played 75 NFL games, but none of the three became a meaningful Dolphins contributor. The trade created opportunity without producing much value for either club.
