Bobby Joe Conrad
Arizona/St. Louis Cardinals received Dallas' 1970 fifth-round selection at No. 127 for veteran Bobby Joe Conrad and used it on Barry Pierson. Pierson did not establish a meaningful NFL career for St. Louis, so the Cardinals failed to turn the draft return into lasting value. With Dallas also receiving little from Conrad, St. Louis earns a D in an even low-impact trade.
St. Louis acquired John Wilbur from Dallas for a 1971 third-round pick. Wilbur did not provide the Cardinals with the intended on-field return, leaving St. Louis with little realized value from the player side of the deal. Dallas used the incoming selection on Sam Scarber, who was not a major contributor, but the Cowboys still converted Wilbur into a defined third-round asset.
Arizona Cardinals received 1991 eighth round pick (#209-Scott Evans). Arizona received the 1991 eighth-round choice used on Scott Evans. The selection did not produce comparable NFL value for the Cardinals, leaving the club with a limited return from moving Rob Awalt. The cost was not premium draft capital, but the football outcome still fell short of the two seasons of useful tight-end work Dallas received. That result supports a D+ grade for Arizona Cardinals.
Arizona moved down from pick No. 152 to No. 174 and added No. 211, turning those selections into Denzel Burke and Hayden Conner. Dallas used No. 152 on Shemar James. James delivered 84 tackles in 14 games, but Burke countered with 48 tackles, 11 passes defensed and three interceptions while Conner added line depth. The extra contributor gives Arizona a narrow early edge.
