Indianapolis Colts received
1998 3rd round pick (71st overall, E.G. Green)
1998 4th round pick (104th overall; subsequently traded, Todd Washington selected after the trade)
Baltimore acquired veteran quarterback Jim Harbaugh and the 93rd pick from Indianapolis on February 17, 1998, sending the Colts picks 71 and 104. Harbaugh started 12 games for the Ravens in 1998, while Indianapolis used No. 71 on receiver E.G. Green and later moved No. 104 in another trade. Neither side created major long-term value from the original exchange, making the deal a balanced veteran-for-draft-capital swap.
1998 4th round pick (93rd overall, Steve McKinney)
Indianapolis traded picks 104, 124 and 154 to Baltimore for the 93rd pick in the 1998 draft and selected offensive lineman Steve McKinney. McKinney started all 60 games he played for the Colts and finished a 10-year career with 143 games and 133 starts. Baltimore received three later selections and additional flexibility, but none of the direct return matched the long-term starting value Indianapolis found at No. 93.
Baltimore reacquired safety Gerome Sapp from Indianapolis for a conditional 2007 seventh-round pick, adding an experienced special-teams player and reserve defensive back to a contending roster. The deal did not alter either franchise dramatically, but Baltimore obtained the more tangible on-field service from a player who already knew its system.
Indianapolis acquired rookie defensive end Ryan LaCasse from Baltimore for a 2008 seventh-round pick shortly before the 2006 season, a low-cost exchange centered on depth and special teams. Neither side gained a cornerstone. Indianapolis received short-term depth on a title team, while Baltimore recouped a future late-round choice, making the exchange essentially balanced.
Indianapolis traded center A.Q. Shipley to Baltimore for a conditional 2014 seventh-round pick that became No. 232, used on tackle Ulrick John. Shipley appeared in all 16 games for the Ravens in 2013 and started the final nine before being waived the next summer. John spent his rookie year on injured reserve and never played a regular-season snap for Indianapolis, leaving Baltimore with the better realized return.
Indianapolis and Baltimore exchanged two players on the edge of their respective rosters in August 2013: the Colts received receiver and returner David Reed, while the Ravens acquired running back Delone Carter. Baltimore waived Carter before the regular season, and Indianapolis released Reed in November after a limited special-teams role. Neither club received lasting value.
