Why Miami Moved Up
Miami sent picks No. 174 and No. 219 to Washington for No. 163 in the 2010 draft. The Dolphins used the fifth-round choice on Georgia safety Reshad Jones. At the time, the cost was simply a modest move from two late selections into one earlier pick. In hindsight, it became one of the best late-round conversions in the franchise’s modern draft history.
What Jones Became
Jones spent his entire ten-year NFL career with Miami. He developed into a full-time starter, earned Pro Bowl selections in 2015 and 2017 and became known for tackling range, ball production and playmaking around the line of scrimmage. He finished his career with 21 interceptions and scored six defensive touchdowns. For a player selected 163rd overall, that level of longevity and peak production was exceptional.
What Washington Received
Washington used No. 174 on tight end Dennis Morris and No. 219 on receiver Terrence Austin. Morris did not make it to a regular-season game for Washington and was traded to St. Louis before the season.
