Minnesota sent the 2012 No. 211 pick to Tennessee for the Titans' 2013 sixth-round selection. Tennessee used No. 211 on Scott Solomon. Minnesota's future choice became No. 176, which the Vikings later moved to Arizona in the A.J. Jefferson trade and used that exchange to add Jefferson plus the pick that became Michael Mauti. Official Titans records confirm that No. 163 and No. 224 were not part of this transaction.

Trade Analysis

The Exchange

The authoritative Titans transaction history corrects an important package error in the existing record. On April 28, 2012, Tennessee received Minnesota's seventh-round pick at No. 211 and used it on Scott Solomon. Minnesota received Tennessee's 2013 sixth-round pick, which became No. 176. Picks No. 163 and No. 224 belonged to a separate Patriots-Packers trade that same draft weekend and are removed from this Vikings-Titans transaction.

Minnesota Vikings Return

Minnesota did not ultimately make the No. 176 selection. Before the 2013 draft, the Vikings traded that sixth-round pick to Arizona in the deal that brought cornerback A.J. Jefferson and a 2013 seventh-rounder to Minnesota. That seventh-round pick became Michael Mauti. Jefferson supplied immediate secondary depth, and Mauti made the roster as a late-round linebacker. The future pick therefore generated two usable pieces through a later transaction.

Tennessee Titans Return

Tennessee used the acquired No. 211 choice on Solomon. He reached the NFL and appeared for multiple teams, but his impact was limited and he did not become a long-term Titans starter. For a seventh-round selection, simply making the league has value, so the Titans' return is not a failure. It was nevertheless smaller than the chain of value Minnesota extracted from the future sixth-rounder.

Value in Hindsight

The actual package changes the entire evaluation. Tennessee did not receive three selections and should not be credited with Terrell Manning or Alfonzo Dennard. The actual comparison is Solomon against Minnesota's future sixth-round asset. Once that asset is followed through the Jefferson-Mauti exchange, Minnesota comes out ahead.

Final Verdict

Minnesota wins, B- to C. The Vikings converted a current seventh into a future sixth and then into two roster contributors. Tennessee got a real NFL player in Solomon, but not enough production to match Minnesota's downstream return.
