San Francisco acquired guard Randy Beisler and Philadelphia's 1971 third-round pick in the September 8, 1969 trade that sent quarterback George Mira to the Eagles. Beisler became a six-year 49ers contributor, appearing in 79 games with 49 starts and starting 41 games from 1970 through 1972 alone. The third-rounder became No. 55 Sam Dickerson, who did not play a regular-season game for San Francisco after Green Bay claimed him before the 1971 season.

Trade Analysis

The safest documented version of the September 8, 1969 transaction is narrower than the legacy row. Philadelphia's own historical draft ledger says the Eagles sent their 1971 third-round selection along with defensive lineman/guard Randy Beisler to San Francisco for quarterback George Mira. San Francisco's later trade history summarizes the player exchange as Beisler for Mira, while Pro Sports Transactions also ties Philadelphia's 1971 third-rounder to the deal. The legacy row additionally listed a second draft choice, probably 1970 No. 48 John Isenbarger, but the 49ers' own draft history says No. 48 came from Philadelphia via Los Angeles. Because that path is distinct and the Eagles' own trade note names only Beisler plus the 1971 third, TradeVerdicts removes the speculative 1970 pick rather than preserving an unsupported asset.

Beisler became the clear centerpiece of San Francisco's return. NFL and Pro Football Reference records show him playing 79 regular-season games for the 49ers from 1969 through 1974, with 49 starts. He was a reserve in 1969, then started 13 games in 1970, all 14 in 1971 and all 14 again in 1972. He remained part of the line in 1973 and 1974 as well. That is substantial, sustained starting value from a player acquired for a quarterback who was no longer central to San Francisco's plans.

The 1971 third-round pick became No. 55 overall, where the 49ers selected USC wide receiver Sam Dickerson. San Francisco's official draft history identifies the pick as coming from Philadelphia. Dickerson did not add NFL game value for the 49ers: Green Bay's 1971 media guide states that the Packers claimed him on waivers just before the season, and Pro Football Reference lists no NFL regular-season career for him. The pick therefore adds historical value to the compensation chain but not realized 49ers production.

Philadelphia's return was short-lived. NFL's career statistics show Mira appearing in seven games with one start for the Eagles in 1969. He completed 25 of 76 passes for 240 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions, with a 19.6 passer rating. He did not play for Philadelphia after that season. Mira later appeared for Miami in 1971, but that production does not belong to the Eagles' side of this trade because Philadelphia no longer controlled him.

The hindsight result strongly favors San Francisco. Beisler alone delivered six seasons, 79 games and 49 starts, including three straight years as a major starting-line contributor. Philadelphia received seven games and one start from Mira, while the additional third-round pick did not turn into 49ers production but still represented real compensation. An A- for San Francisco and D+ for Philadelphia captures the large difference in realized team value without crediting San Francisco for the unsupported 1970 No. 48 selection.
