Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints
New Orleans sent Bill Curry, the No. 1 overall pick, a 1967 third-round pick and a 1969 seventh-rounder to Baltimore for quarterback Gary Cuozzo, Buford Allison and a 1967 seventeenth-round pick. Baltimore used No. 1 on Bubba Smith and also gained Curry, both future All-Pro-level starters on Super Bowl teams. Cuozzo lasted one Saints season before being traded again.

Minnesota acquired quarterback Gary Cuozzo from New Orleans for the Vikings' first-round picks in 1968 and 1969. Those selections became Kevin Hardy at No. 7 and John Shinners at No. 17. Cuozzo provided Minnesota quarterback play but never became a long-term answer, while New Orleans controlled two consecutive premium draft assets.

Gilliam immediately produced four strong Vikings seasons, the second-rounder became Jackie Wallace, and Minnesota later used the fourth-round asset to obtain punter Mike Eischeid. Cuozzo struggled in his lone Cardinals season. The volume and quality of Minnesota’s return make this a decisive Vikings win.
