Orlando Magic / Sonics
Orlando acquired Rashard Lewis in a 2007 sign-and-trade for a protected second-round pick and a large trade exception. Lewis became an All-Star and a central spacer on the 2009 Finals team. Seattle used the exception days later to absorb Kurt Thomas and obtain two first-round picks, including the selection used on Serge Ibaka. Both organizations converted the mechanism into major value.
