2011 NBA Trades

New Orleans Hornets came out ahead in the 2011-12-24 trade with Memphis, which received Quincy Pondexter for Greivis Vasquez.

The Nets acquired Mehmet Okur from Jazz in exchange for 2015 second-round pick (#41, Pat Connaughton); trade exception.

Charlotte acquired Byron Mullens from Oklahoma City Thunder for 2013 second round pick (#32-Alex Abrines).

In December 2011 Golden State received Brandon Rush from Indiana for Lou Amundson and a 2015 second-round pick. Rush played 65 games, 1,717 minutes and scored 634 points in his first Warriors season, shooting 45.2 percent from three. A subsequent knee injury restricted his next season to two appearances. Indiana acquired a working reserve and a late second-round asset. Warriors Win, B+ versus C+.

The Clippers acquired Chris Paul and two second-round picks for Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu and the unprotected 2012 first that became Austin Rivers, creating the Lob City era.

Dallas received 2016 second-round pick (originally protected top 55 in 2016, but protection later removed as part of subsequent trade with Mavericks) (#45-Demetrius Jackson) from Denver Nuggets and sent Rudy Fernandez; Corey Brewer in return.

Minnesota acquired Robert Vaden; 2012 second round pick (#58-Robbie Hummel); 2013 conditional second round pick (if Thunder 2012 pick is #47-60) (#59-Bojan Dubljevic) while sending out Lazar Hayward in the 2011-12-13 transaction with Thunder.

Celtics Win. Boston Celtics earns B+; Orlando Magic earns C. The Celtics took the more coherent single-player return in Bass, whose scoring and rebounding worked alongside the remaining

Dallas received Lamar Odom; 2012 second-round pick (#55-Darius Johnson-Odom); Mavericks' option to swap 2013 second-round picks with Lakers (not exercised) from Los Angeles Lakers and sent first-round pick (protected top 20 in 2012-17, unprotected in 2018) (2014 #21-Mitch McGary); Mavericks' option to swap 2013 second-round picks with Lakers (not exercised); $8.9M trade exception in return.

In a 3-team transaction, Dallas received Andy Rautins; 2012 second-round pick (protected top 55 in 2012) (from Wizards) (not exercised); $11M trade exception and sent Tyson Chandler; draft rights to Ahmad Nivins; draft rights to Giorgos Printezis; 2012 second-round pick (#46-Darius Miller).

Boston acquired Keyon Dooling and a conditional second-round pick that never conveyed in December 2011, sending the rights to Albert Miralles to Milwaukee. Dooling played 46 regular-season Celtics games and supplied postseason backup guard minutes as Boston reached the Eastern Conference Finals. Miralles never provided NBA playing time for Milwaukee. Slight Celtics Edge, Boston B- and Milwaukee C+.

Cleveland acquired Omri Casspi and first round pick (protected top 14 in 2012, top 13 in 2013, top 12 in 2014, top 10 in 2015-17, else 2017 second round pick (protected 56-60)) (2017 #38-Jordan Bell) for J.J. Hickson; the completed outcomes give the Cavaliers a modest realized-value edge.

Minnesota acquired rights to Tanguy Ngombo while sending out 2015 second round pick (less favorable of Nuggets and Timberwolves) (#37-Richaun Holmes) in the 2011-06-27 transaction with Blazers.

The Nets acquired rights to Bojan Bogdanovic from Timberwolves in exchange for 2013 second-round pick (#52, Lorenzo Brown); cash.

Minnesota Timberwolves held the better side in the 2011-06-24 transaction with Miami, which received rights to Norris Cole for rights to Bojan Bogdanovic; 2014 second-round pick (#44-Markel Brown); cash.

Boston acquired rights to JaJuan Johnson; 2014 second-round pick (#47 Russ Smith) from Nets in exchange for rights to MarShon Brooks.

Charlotte acquired cash considerations from Golden State Warriors for rights to Jeremy Tyler.

Hornets Win. Charlotte earns A for Biyombo's useful first stint and the Maggette chain that produced Ben Gordon plus a future first. Milwaukee receives B because Jackson, Livingston, Udrih and Harris all had value, but the club did not keep Harris long enough to realize his peak and later conversions were mixed. Sacramento receives D because Salmons and Fredette did not create a comparable player or asset return. Hornets Win is the clearest completed-value verdict. Charlotte's return aged best because both incoming pieces created value tied directly to the deal. Biyombo became a useful defensive center during his initial Charlotte tenure, and Maggette was not merely a one-year scorer: in 2012 Charlotte moved him to Detroit for Ben Gordon and a future first-round pick. That first eventually conveyed as a top-10 selection. The combination of a long-lived rotation big, a productive veteran season and a future first produced more durable value than the announcement-day reaction suggested.

Chicago acquired rights to Nikola Mirotic from Timberwolves for rights to Norris Cole (Gene), rights to Malcolm Lee, cash considerations, producing a clear realized-value win.

Cleveland acquired 2013 second round pick (#31-Allen Crabbe) and 2014 second round pick (#33-Joe Harris) for rights to Justin Harper, producing a clear Cavaliers win on realized player, draft and roster value.

Denver acquired the draft rights to Jordan Hamilton in a June 2011 three-team exchange. Dallas received the rights to Rudy Fernández and Petteri Koponen, while Portland got the rights to Tanguy Ngombo. The Nuggets acquired a first-round prospect with a clearer immediate NBA route; Dallas pursued an experienced European guard and another overseas right. The inherited slight Nuggets edge grades Denver B, Dallas B and Portland B-.

Denver acquired the draft rights to Chu Chu Maduabum from the Lakers for the future second-round pick used on #57 Alex Oriakhi.

Golden State bought the rights to Jeremy Tyler, the No. 39 choice in the June 2011 draft, from the Charlotte Bobcats for cash. Tyler appeared in 42 Warriors games as a rookie, starting 23 with 568 minutes and 205 points; the following season he added 20 games and 63 minutes before moving to Atlanta. Warriors Win, Golden State B-, Charlotte C. Both sides received a real asset.

The 2011 draft-night package cost Houston too much downstream value.

Houston’s cash purchase of Chandler Parsons’ draft rights was a clear win.

San Antonio won the 2011 draft-night exchange by turning George Hill into the rights to Kawhi Leonard, Davis Bertans and Erazem Lorbek; Hill still gave Indiana several productive seasons and two conference-final runs.

New Orleans acquired cash from New York Knicks for rights to Josh Harrellson.

Cleveland acquired Semih Erden and Luke Harangody from Boston at the February 2011 deadline, sending a future second-round selection that became associated with No. 39 Jeff Withey in 2013. Both incoming Cavaliers had limited roles, and the pick's later rights chain did not produce Withey's NBA career in Boston. Both sides earned C+ under the inherited Even Trade verdict.

Sacramento obtained Marquis Daniels and cash from Boston in February 2011 in exchange for a conditional 2017 second-round pick that never conveyed. Daniels was injured when acquired and did not develop into a useful Kings rotation player; Boston received modest flexibility. The inherited slight Celtics advantage is C+ to C.

Oklahoma City received meaningful Kendrick Perkins playoff years, but Boston ultimately captured a longer combination of Jeff Green production and later first-round value, creating a slight Celtics edge.

Charlotte acquired D.J. White; Morris Peterson from Oklahoma City Thunder for Nazr Mohammed.

Charlotte acquired Dante Cunningham; Joel Przybilla; Sean Marks; first round pick (protected top 7 in 2011, top 8 in 2012-14, else 2015 and 2016 second round picks) (2011 #19-Tobias Harris); first round pick (protected top 12 in 2013-15, unprotected in 2016) (2014 #24-Shabazz Napier); cash considerations from Portland Trail Blazers for Gerald Wallace.

Cleveland acquired Baron Davis and 2011 first round pick (#1-Kyrie Irving) for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon, producing a clear Cavaliers win on realized player, draft and roster value.

The Aaron Brooks trade was ultimately favorable to Rockets and gave Houston two meaningful assets.

Houston gained a narrow long-term edge in the Shane Battier trade.

The Nets acquired Brandan Wright; Dan Gadzuric from Warriors in exchange for Troy Murphy; 2012 second-round pick (#35, Draymond Green).

The Nets acquired Deron Williams from Jazz in exchange for Devin Harris; Derrick Favors; 2011 first-round pick (#3, Enes Kanter); 2013 first-round pick (#21, Gorgui Dieng); cash considerations.

Washington traded Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong to Atlanta in February 2011 for Mike Bibby, Jordan Crawford, Maurice Evans and a first-round pick. Hinrich gave the Hawks useful playoff guard defense, but Crawford played a more sustained scoring role for Washington and the pick became Chris Singleton. Wizards Win, Washington A and Atlanta C-.

Golden State acquired Troy Murphy and the future 2012 second-round pick used on Draymond Green for Brandan Wright and Dan Gadzuric.

New Orleans acquired Carl Landry from Sacramento on February 23, 2011 for Marcus Thornton and cash. Landry played 23 Hornets games in 2010-11 and another 41 in 2011-12, scoring 783 points in 64 regular-season games. Thornton broke out immediately in Sacramento, averaging 21.3 points in 27 post-trade games and 18.7 points over 51 games in 2011-12. Kings Win, Sacramento A- and New Orleans B.

Chicago received 2011 first round pick (lottery protected in 2011, else cash) (#28-Norris Cole (Gene)) for James Johnson and finished with a modest realized-value edge.

Denver sent Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and supporting players to New York in a three-team blockbuster, receiving a deep player package, draft assets, cash and the 2016 pick-swap right later used to select Jamal Murray.

Dallas received draft rights to Giorgos Printezis from Toronto Raptors and sent Alexis Ajinca; 2013 second-round pick (#41-Jamaal Franklin); cash in return.
