2019 NBA Trades

Cleveland acquired Dante Exum, 2022 second round pick (#39-Khalifa Diop) and 2023 second round pick (#49-Emoni Bates) for Jordan Clarkson; the completed outcomes give the Cavaliers a modest realized-value edge.

Houston traded Chris Paul, first-round picks in 2024 and 2026, and swap rights in 2021 and 2025 for Russell Westbrook, whose Rockets tenure lasted one season before another major reset.

Denver received Jerami Grant from Oklahoma City Thunder, sending draft picks (first-round pick protected top 10 in 2020-22, else 2023 second-round pick, 2024 second-round pick) (2020 #25-Immanuel Quickley); traded player exception in return.

Detroit acquired rights to Jordan Bone from Philadelphia 76ers for 2024 second round pick (protected top 55) (not exercised); cash considerations.

Wolves Win. Minnesota earns B+ for Shabazz Napier's usable 2019-20 guard minutes, Treveon Graham's short-term wing service and cash. Golden State receives C for international rights to Lior Eliyahu and salary flexibility, not a guaranteed NBA player. Chicago received Tomas Satoransky, Wizards' option to swap Lakers 2022 second round pick with Bulls (more favorable of Bulls, Pistons picks) (#38-Kennedy Chandler) for 2020 second round pick (more favorable of Bulls pick (protected #56-60), Grizzlies pick (protected #56-60); if one of the picks is protected, Wizards receive the other team's pick) (#37-Vit Krejci), Wizards' option to swap Lakers 2022 second round picks with Bulls (#33-Christian Koloko), Bulls removed protection on 2023 second round pick owed to Wizards from previous trade and finished with a modest realized-value edge.

Brooklyn acquired Kevin Durant and a protected first in a sign-and-trade for D’Angelo Russell, Shabazz Napier and Treveon Graham, while both franchises later multiplied the incoming assets.

Atlanta sent Solomon Hill and Miles Plumlee to Memphis on July 8, 2019, in exchange for Chandler Parsons. Hill played 48 Memphis games in 2019-20 and averaged 5.7 points with defensive wing minutes before another trade. Memphis waived Plumlee before he played a regular-season game. Parsons appeared just five times for Atlanta, totaling 54 minutes. Grizzlies Win, Memphis B and Atlanta D+, reflecting actual receiving-team usage.

Memphis clearly won the completed-value comparison with Phoenix Suns, receiving Josh Jackson; De'Anthony Melton; 2020 second-round pick (#40-Robert Woodard II); 2021 second-round pick (protected #36-60) (not exercised) for Jevon Carter; Kyle Korver.

New Orleans acquired Derrick Favors from Utah Jazz for 2021 second round pick (#47-David Johnson (Ricardo)); 2023 second round pick (#49-Emoni Bates).

Washington acquired Davis Bertāns from San Antonio during a July 2019 three-team transaction in which the Spurs received DeMarre Carroll and Brooklyn took the rights to Aaron White and Nemanja Dangubić. Bertāns became an important outside shooter for the Wizards, giving Washington the strongest direct on-court return. The inherited slight Wizards edge grades Washington A-, Brooklyn B+ and San Antonio C-.

Hawks Win. Atlanta earns B+ for Allen Crabbe's short-term playing time and the transferable rights tied to Nickeil Alexander-Walker and the later No. 17 Aleksej Pokuševski draft slot. Brooklyn receives B for Taurean Prince's wing minutes and a 2021 second-round asset associated with Marcus Zegarowski. Alexander-Walker and Pokuševski's NBA games with other franchises aren't assigned to Atlanta. Atlanta traded Taurean Prince and a 2021 second-round selection to Brooklyn in a July 6, 2019 transaction involving guard Allen Crabbe, the rights to 2019 first-round pick Nickeil Alexander-

Boston obtained Kemba Walker and a 2020 second-round pick in a July 6, 2019 sign-and-trade sending Terry Rozier and a protected second to Charlotte. Walker became a Celtics All-Star in 2019-20 and helped reach the Eastern Conference Finals, but knee problems shortened his stay. Rozier became a multi-year Hornets starting guard. Charlotte Win, Boston C- and Hornets B+.

Phoenix obtained center Aron Baynes and the rights to guard Ty Jerome from Boston in July 2019; Boston received a future first-rounder and a trade exception. The choice eventually became associated with No. 30 Desmond Bane, whose NBA career developed outside Boston. Baynes and Jerome offered Suns roster options, while the Celtics' acquired draft asset carried valuable flexibility. The inherited Celtics Win is B+ to Phoenix D.

Indiana acquired Malcolm Brogdon in a sign-and-trade and received several seasons of starting guard play before converting him into another productive asset package.

Memphis received rights to Brandon Clarke from Oklahoma City Thunder for rights to Darius Bazley; 2024 second-round pick (#37-Bobi Klintman), with the completed-value comparison remaining close enough to support an even evaluation.

Memphis came out ahead in the 2019-07-06 trade with Washington Wizards, receiving Dwight Howard; traded player exception for CJ Miles.

Memphis holds a slight edge in the Mike Conley trade because the Grizzlies converted an aging franchise guard into multiple rotation players and first-round value, while Utah still received an All-Star season and several years of high-level playoff point-guard play.

Minnesota moved Dario Šarić and Cameron Johnson's draft rights to Phoenix to move up for Jarrett Culver.

Win. Atlanta received a legitimate starter in De'Andre Hunter, but New Orleans' diversified return produced Nickeil Alexander-Walker, multiple developmental shots and the future-pick chain that became Herb Jones. Hayes' disappointing development keeps the grade below A+, while Hunter's real playoff value protects Atlanta from a harsh mark. The total portfolio still favors New Orleans, A to B.

76ers Win by a modest flexibility edge. Philadelphia earns B for the rights to Jordan Bone and two future second-round selections associated with the later Theo Maledon and Colby Jones draft positions. Atlanta receives B- for Bruno Fernando's actual NBA center minutes. Neither Maledon's Oklahoma City career nor Jones's Sacramento appearances are counted as Philadelphia games; later pick transactions require separate accounting. Dallas received draft rights to Isaiah Roby; 2020 second-round pick (#51-Justinian Jessup); Brandon Boston Jr. from Detroit Pistons and sent draft rights to Deividas Sirvydis in return.

Atlanta traded Kent Bazemore to Portland for Evan Turner on June 24, 2019. Turner appeared in 19 Hawks games before moving again, while Bazemore provided Portland wing minutes during the 2019-20 season. The Hawks valued Turner's playmaking and contract flexibility; the two-player exchange's grade gives Atlanta a slight edge despite both tenures being short.

Philadelphia moved the No. 24 and No. 33 draft rights to Boston in June 2019 to acquire the No. 20 rights to Matisse Thybulle. Boston retained Carsen Edwards from the second round but moved Ty Jerome's rights to Phoenix in a separate draft-night transaction. Thybulle developed into an All-Defensive wing with substantial 76ers minutes. 76ers Win, Philadelphia B and Boston D.

On June 21, 2019, Washington Wizards acquired Jonathon Simmons; rights to Admiral Schofield from Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for $2M cash.

The Nets acquired rights to Jaylen Hands; draft picks (first-round pick protected top 14 in 2020-22, else 2023 second-round pick, 2024 second-round pick) (2020 #19, Saddiq Bey) from Clippers in exchange for rights to Mfiondu Kabengele.

Atlanta sold the No. 41 choice in the 2019 draft to Golden State for a 2024 second-round pick and $1.3 million. The Warriors drafted Eric Paschall, who made the 2019-20 All-Rookie First Team and scored 14.0 points per game. Atlanta's future pick became No. 44 Pelle Larsson but took a separate path. Golden State received more immediate NBA production.

Denver acquired rights to Bol Bol from Miami Heat for 2022 second-round pick (less favorable of 76ers, Nuggets picks) (pick forfeited); $1.2M cash considerations.

Detroit won the deal, acquiring Tony Snell, rights to Kevin Porter Jr. for Jon Leuer.

Utah purchased the rights to 2019 second-round pick No. 58 Miye Oni from Golden State for $2 million. Oni played 80 Utah regular-season games across 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22, totaling 672 minutes, 145 points and 108 rebounds, plus ten playoff appearances. Golden State received the entire confirmed cash payment. Jazz Win narrowly, Utah B for NBA depth and Golden State B- for $2 million.

Golden State surrendered the more valuable outcome. The Warriors acquired rights to Alen Smailagic from New Orleans Pelicans for 2021 second round pick (#47-David Johnson (Ricardo)); 2023 second round pick (#49-Emoni Bates); cash considerations.

Utah acquired the draft rights to No. 50 pick Jarrell Brantley from Indiana in June 2019 for a guaranteed 2021 second-round pick and cash considerations listed as $1 million in the trade ledger. Brantley appeared in NBA games for Utah during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, but never became a regular starter. Indiana received both cash and a later selection, ultimately No. 60 in 2021. Even Trade, Indiana B- and Utah C+ for different modest asset returns.

The 2019-06-20 trade leans slightly toward Orlando Magic; Los Angeles Lakers received rights to Talen Horton-Tucker but sent 2020 second-round pick (#58-Paul Reed); $2.2M cash considerations.

New York acquired rights to Ignas Brazdeikis from Kings for rights to Kyle Guy; $1M cash considerations. New York received useful value, but the partner side finished with the better overall return.

Atlanta traded the No. 44 selection in the 2019 draft to Miami for $1.9 million and a protected future second-round choice that did not convey. Miami used the acquired slot on Bol Bol but moved his rights onward to Denver. The Heat received a movable draft asset while Atlanta took cash. Miami's trade utility, not Bol's later Denver playing time, accounts for its win.

The Nets acquired Greg Monroe; 2021 second-round pick (#37, J.T. Thor) from Raptors in exchange for cash considerations.

Atlanta took injured reserve Jabari Bird and cash from Boston in February 2019 for a protected 2020 second-round pick that never conveyed. Bird did not become a Hawks rotation player, and the Celtics gained a roster spot and avoided keeping the contract. The inherited slight Celtics edge, B- to C+, reflects an administrative result.

The Hawks traded Tyler Dorsey to Memphis for Shelvin Mack on February 7, 2019. Atlanta waived Mack the next day, while Dorsey joined the Grizzlies for the remainder of the season. Memphis got a usable young guard; Atlanta did not receive regular-season minutes from its incoming player.

At the February 2019 deadline Cleveland acquired Brandon Knight, Marquese Chriss and draft rights from Houston, while Houston received Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin IV and a second-round asset. Sacramento acquired Alec Burks. The incoming Cavaliers picks later became associated with Dylan Windler and Andrew Nembhard, but those rights require individual tracing. The inherited Even Trade grades all three clubs C+.

Dallas received Justin Jackson; Zach Randolph from Sacramento Kings and sent Harrison Barnes in return.

In a February 2019 three-team trade, Milwaukee acquired Nikola Mirotić, Detroit received Thon Maker, and New Orleans took Stanley Johnson, Jason Smith and four future second-round selections. The original Pelicans Win grades New Orleans B+, Detroit C+ and Milwaukee C+. The Pistons-only imported ledger had omitted Mirotić and the additional Pelicans compensation, now restored using the official Bucks transaction record.

Pacers Win, modestly. Indiana earns B- for acquiring Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin IV, Maarty Leunen's rights and a 2021 second-round asset later associated with No. 54 Sandro Mamukelashvili. Houston receives C for cash and payroll flexibility. Incoming Pacers contracts didn't automatically create long NBA tenures, and Mamukelashvili's later career wasn't direct Indiana playing output. At the February 7, 2019 deadline, Indiana obtained the contracts of Nik Stauskas and Wade Baldwin IV, draft rights to overseas forward Maarty Leunen and a future 2021 second-round selection from Houst

The long-term value clearly favored Philadelphia 76ers: Houston received Rockets' option to swap 2021 second round picks with 76ers (not exercised) from Philadelphia 76ers for James Ennis III; Rockets' option to swap 2021 second round picks with 76ers (not exercised).

The Clippers decisively won the Ivica Zubac trade because they acquired years of starting-center production and later transaction value for Mike Muscala, whose Lakers tenure lasted only the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

On February 7, 2019, the Clippers exchanged Avery Bradley for Memphis veterans Garrett Temple and JaMychal Green. Temple played 26 regular-season Los Angeles games after the deal while Green played 24, then returned to the Clippers for 63 more games in 2019-20. Bradley played 14 games for Memphis before leaving the organization after the season. Clippers Win, Los Angeles A- and Memphis C+, with Green supplying the sustained return.

Toronto acquired Marc Gasol for Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, C.J. Miles and a 2024 second-round pick. Gasol immediately supplied the defense, passing and postseason matchup value that helped the Raptors win the 2019 championship, while Memphis received several productive seasons from Valanciunas and additional movable assets.

Orlando acquired Markelle Fultz for Jonathon Simmons, a 2019 second-round pick and a protected 2020 first that conveyed at No. 21 and became Tyrese Maxey. Fultz rebuilt a useful NBA career with the Magic, but Maxey became an All-Star, All-NBA guard and Philadelphia cornerstone, giving the 76ers the decisive long-term win.

Chicago received Otto Porter Jr. for Jabari Parker, Bobby Portis, 2023 second round pick (originally protected top 36, protection removed as part of subsequent trade) (#42-Tristan Vukcevic), but the partner generated modestly stronger realized value.

Detroit came out slightly ahead, acquiring Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, 2021 second round pick (#52 – Luka Garza) for Reggie Bullock.

The Tobias Harris sale was a strong Clippers win because Los Angeles converted an expiring high-level scorer into Landry Shamet and a deep draft package that strengthened the 2019 superstar pivot.

Miami held the better side in the 2019-02-06 transaction with Phoenix Suns, receiving Ryan Anderson for Tyler Johnson; Wayne Ellington; cash.

New Orleans acquired Markieff Morris; 2023 second round pick (#37-Hunter Tyson) from Washington Wizards for Wesley Johnson.

On February 6, 2019, Toronto acquired cash considerations from Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Malachi Richardson; rights to Emir Preldžic; 2022 second round pick (#51-Tyrese Martin).

Cleveland acquired Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin IV and 2 additional assets for Rodney Hood, producing a clear Cavaliers win on realized player, draft and roster value.

Chicago received Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, $2.6M cash for 2020 second round pick (protected top 55) (not exercised) and finished with a modest realized-value edge.

Dallas received Kristaps Porzingis; Tim Hardaway Jr.; Courtney Lee; Trey Burke from New York Knicks and sent Dennis Smith Jr.; DeAndre Jordan; Wesley Matthews; first-round pick (two years after Mavericks send first-round pick to Hawks) (2021 #21-Keon Johnson); first-round pick (protected top 10 in 2023-25, else 2025 second-round pick) (2024 #24-Kyshawn George) in return.

Chicago received Carmelo Anthony, rights to Jon Diebler, $1.56M cash for rights to Tadija Dragicevic and finished with a modest realized-value edge.

Chicago received Michael Carter-Williams, cash for 2020 second round pick (protected top 55) (not exercised) and finished with a modest realized-value edge.

Chicago acquired MarShon Brooks, Wayne Selden Jr., 2019 second round pick (#38-Daniel Gafford), plus 1 additional asset from Grizzlies for Justin Holiday, producing a clear realized-value win.

Bulls Win. The key value was the 2019 second-round pick. Chicago used it on Gafford, who became a legitimate NBA center and created far more multi-year value than Memphis received from Holiday's short stay. Holiday was a credible veteran wing and helped Memphis in the short term, so the deal was not irrational. The problem is that the Grizzlies paid two second-round picks for a rental-length contribution during a season that did not become a deep playoff run.
